More often than not as a trusted Gahanna chiropractor, we find that patients who suffer from sciatica pain are best served with individualized treatment plans that are based on their diagnosis, symptoms, underlying sciatica pain causes, and how they respond to treatment. Unfortunately, finding the right relief from sciatica pain can require some trial and error while some patients find the treatment that works for them after only a couple visits with their chiropractor.
There are a lot of misconceptions out there about sciatica treatment options and today we’re going to look at the facts versus the myths.
- Truth: Sciatica pain can last significantly longer for one person than another depending on the underlying cause. Most cases of sciatica pain go away within a few weeks of effective treatment methods, but this is unfortunately not the case for all of our patients. Sometimes patients see sciatica pain last for several months depending on the underlying cause.
- Truth: Exercise is oftentimes imperative to helping heal the underlying cause of sciatica. While some people come to us believing that bed rest and low physical activity is the best treatment for sciatica pain, it’s actually only good for 1-2 days with an initial flare up. However, avoiding activity for much longer will only lead to a downward spiral where your pain leads to inactivity, which leads to more pain, and the cycle just repeats itself. You must use proper exercise techniques to strengthen your lower back muscles so that they’re better able to support your spine and overall back.
